The Summit County Elks Lodge in Silverthorne will host a fundraiser on Friday, Feb. 8 for the group of 14 Summit County ski mountaineering athletes who will be traveling to Europe in March to compete in the International Ski Mountaineering World Championships.
The fundraiser event will take place from 6-9 p.m., and will feature an all-you-can-eat buffet dinner. Tickets are $15 in advance and $20 at the door. Fifty percent of the receipts form the fundraiser will be paid to the competitors to attend the event in Villars-sur-Ollon, Switzerland, scheduled for March 9-16.
The U.S. national team will travel to Villars-sur-Ollon for the world championships event. Earlier this week, the members of the 2019-20 U.S. national team were announced. More than a third of those selected hail from Summit County.
In the senior women’s division, Summit County athletes include Sierra Anderson, Jaime Brede, Nikki LaRochelle and Kate Zander, all of Breckenridge. In the cadet women’s 15-17-year-old division, Silverthorne’s Grace Staberg was selected. In the junior men’s 18-20-year-old division, Finn Remias and Max Bonenberger of Breckenridge made the team, joined by Sam Wescott of Silverthorne. And in the cadet men’s 15-17-year-old division, Summit County athletes include Connor Albin, Paul Hans and Mark Jardim of Breckenrdige, as well as Sam Burke and Jeremiah Vaille of Dillon.
