High winds shut down gondola at Breckenridge Ski Resort

As a safety precaution, Breckenridge Ski Resort shut down its gondola on Wednesday due to high winds.

The closure was first mentioned in a tweet from Breckenridge Free Ride public transportation system after 3 p.m. Monday and then retweeted by the town of Breckenridge’s Twitter account. A resort spokeswoman also confirmed the gondola had shut down as a result of the wind.

The closure came as a Monday storm brought a dusting of new snow and fierce winds to Summit County and much of the High Country.

The gondola at Breckenridge Ski Resort typically runs from 8 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. when the resort is open. Wind-related lift and gondola closures aren’t common, but they do happen. Breckenridge Ski Resort closed for the day around 3 p.m. on Dec. 29, 2017, also due to high winds.
