Highway 9 head-on collision crash results in major injuries

At 1:43 p.m. on Sunday afternoon, the Summit County Sheriff’s department received a call about a head-on collision on Highway 9 near Heeney Road, in Heeney. The vehicles involved were a Toyota Tundra and a white SUV. There were two drivers and six passengers involved.

A Flight For Life helicopter landed at the scene of the crash at 2:25 p.m. to take one severely injured person to a Denver metro area hospital. The remaining seven involved were transported via ambulance to St. Anthony Summit Medical Center. Two of the seven involved were juveniles.

Highway 9 was closed at 1:56 p.m. and reopened at 4:26 p.m. In the meantime, traffic circumnavigated the crash via Heeney Road.
