Community members and organizations from around Summit County and the rest of the nation have helped to raise more than $71,000 for the Ken Jones Memorial Fund.
The fund, operated through The Summit Foundation, was established following the death of Summit Fire & EMS firefighter Ken Jones, who died Dec. 7 while fighting a fire near Copper Mountain Resort.
“This is what our community is all about, being there for each other,” Summit Foundation Executive Director Jeanne Bistranin said. “The foundation was proud to be able to step in and do our part during this difficult time.”
The foundation will give the funds directly to the fire district, which will work with Jones’ wife, Keri, to provide relief for expenses and education for their two children.
“We have been overwhelmed by the support and generosity shown by both strangers and friends alike during this difficult time,” Fire & EMS Chief Jeff Berino said. “Thanks to everyone who has helped in so many ways, including donating to the Ken Jones Memorial Fund.”
Future donations in memory of Ken Jones can be made to the Ken Jones Memorial Fund, care of Summit Fire & EMS, P.O. Box 4910, Frisco, CO 80443.
