Elisabeth Lawrence will be sworn in as Summit County’s next commissioner at a ceremony in the old Breckenridge county courthouse on Friday, Feb. 1. Lawrence, currently a Town of Breckenridge council member, won the commissioner’s seat after receiving the Summit County Democratic Party’s approval over seven other Democrat candidates at a vacancy committee meeting this past Wednesday. She will replace Dan Gibbs, who resigned the seat a week after being sworn in for his third term to serve in Gov. Jared Polis’ cabinet as director of the state’s Department of Natural Resources.
The swearing-in will take place at 8:30 a.m. with Fifth Judicial District Chief Judge Mark Thompson presiding and conducting the oath of office in the BOCC hearing room on the third floor of the old county courthouse located at 208 Lincoln Ave. in Breckenridge. Juice and light breakfast refreshments will be served for a small celebration afterward. All members of the public are welcome to attend.
