The Summit County Rescue Group is engaged in a rescue operation after an apparent paragliding incident Tuesday afternoon. Swan Mountain Road connecting Keystone and Dillon to Breckenridge has closed in both directions near Sapphire Point.
Summit County Sheriff Jaime FitzSimons said his office was notified of a paragliding accident at about 3:30 p.m. Tuesday afternoon.
“A paraglider that had launched from Sapphire Point had crashed into the trees between Swan Mountain Road and Lake Dillon,” FitzSimons said, adding that he did not have information about the extent of the person’s injuries.
FitzSimons said the Summit County Sheriff’s Office special operations unit was on-site with volunteer rescuers who were working to extricate the individual.
Rescue group spokesperson Charles Pitman said the operation is ongoing, and FitzSimons said Swan Mountain Road is expected to reopen by 5:30 p.m.
