Nominee: Bobby Aldighieri
Sport: Freestyle skiing
Though he now calls Steamboat Springs home as the freestyle program director for the Steamboat Springs Winter Sports Club, Bobby Aldighieri was a huge part of the Breckenridge freestyle competition scene and community.
The New Jersey native found his way to Breckenridge after attending Killington Mountain School, where his Olympic dreams grew. As a competitive mogul skier during his time in Breckenridge, Aldighieri spent seven years on the U.S. Ski Team, achieving a top world ranking of No. 5 and winning a World Cup gold medal in 1988. He represented Team USA at the 1992 Winter Olympic Games in Albertville, France, where he finished 23rd in men’s moguls.
Aldighieri also competed on the Professional Ski Tour for three years, becoming the first mogul skier in history to win a World Cup and a pro event. He later retired from the U.S. Ski Team and moved to Steamboat to serve as the head moguls coach for the Winter Sports Club.
In the time since, Aldighieri has coached the Canadian National and Development teams, grooming several future Olympic medalists in his time with both the Canadian program and the Winter Sports Club.
