The Summit County Rescue Group responded to reports of an avalanche on the north chute of Buffalo Mountain earlier today, though the call appears to be a false alarm.

Charles Pitman, public information officer with the Summit County Rescue Group, said that several members of the group have been investigating the area for the last hour, but haven’t discovered any signs that an avalanche actually happened. Pitman noted that after reports of tracks disappearing into an avalanche began circulating on social media more than an hour ago, the group received a call from some individuals who went skiing in the area earlier today who said that there was no avalanche.

“Unless anybody has any specific information about somebody who went skiing and who hasn’t come back, we’re not going to respond any further,” said Pitman. “So far we have nothing that would lead us to believe there’s any reason to go further.”
