Colorado Parks and Wildlife, along with several local, state and federal partner agencies, invites the public to join them outdoors today for Colorado Public Lands Day. The importance of public lands to our state’s economy and way of life will be shared, with an opportunity to join in on stewardship projects, outdoor adventures and free events statewide.

Colorado Public Lands Day is an annual opportunity to give back to our varied public landscapes, celebrate our state’s heritage, recognize our unique and diverse history, and bring people from all Colorado communities together to enjoy our public lands.

“A recent poll from Colorado College shows that over 70% of Coloradans say the ability to enjoy public lands is a significant reason why they live in the West,” said CPW education, partnerships and volunteer manager Jennifer Anderson. “Our public lands give us the opportunity for fishing, camping, hunting, hiking and so much more; Colorado Public Lands Day gives all of us a chance to show our support for these places we love.”

Colorado was the first state in the nation to establish its own public lands day in 2016. The holiday is recognized annually on the third Saturday of May, and celebrates the significant contributions that national, state and local public lands within Colorado make to wildlife, outdoor recreation, the economy, and to Coloradans’ quality of life.

In addition to state park events, many additional local and federal agency events and volunteer opportunities are posted at COPublicLandsDay.com. Use #COPublicLandsDay and #KeepItPublic to post or follow Saturday’s activities on social media. For more information on Colorado Public Lands day, visit CPW.State.CO.US.
