Silverthorne’s First Friday for February to honor Latino community

Silverthorne’s First Friday celebrations will roll into February with a nod to the Latino community’s cultural influence on the town.

For this upcoming Friday’s event, Silverthorne has a lineup of music, dance and food, along with a special Noche De Candela — night of light — with wish lanterns being released down the Blue River.

Residents and visitors alike are encouraged to design and build their own lanterns at the Silverthorne Pavilion beginning at 5 p.m. Friday before they will be released down the river as a community at 7 p.m.

Lanterns will float from the Chipotle bridge down to the Silverthorne Performing Arts Center’s lawn, where the lanterns will be collected by town staff. Optimal viewing positions will be on the Chipotle and Pavilion bridges, according to the town.

A schedule of events is as follows:

5-6 p.m. — Salsa dance instruction with Studio B
