Summit County Sheriff’s Office
The Summit County Sheriff’s Office was one of several law enforcement agencies around the country to participate in the 46th annual Colorado Peace Officer Ski & Snowboard Race last week at Vail Ski Resort.
More than 100 officers from agencies around the country participated in the event, said Craig Westering of the Vail Police Department, which sponsors the event every year. Westering said in addition to local law enforcement, representatives from the New York Police Department, Chicago Police Department, Secret Service, FBI, DEA and others also participated.
The team from the Summit County Sheriff’s Office took home first prize at the event, followed by the Vail Police Department, the Avon Police Department and a second team from the Summit County Sheriff’s Office. Summit deputies also performed well individually. In the advanced men’s category, Mark Watson placed second, Matt Goldstein took fourth, Brian Metzger took fifth and Joe Scalise finished in the top ten. Kevin Kelble took second in the masters division and Erin Sirek finished first in the advanced women’s division.
This year’s event served as a fundraiser for the Colorado Fallen Hero Foundation.
“We’re back in the No. 1 standing, and I’m so proud of that team,” said Sheriff Jaime FitzSimons. “We’re glad to be back in first place, and they better look out next year.”
