Summit Daily letters: Baumgardner didn’t serve resort communities well

Baumgardner didn’t serve resort communities well

I read with interest today’s article that reported on Senator Randy Baumgardner’s resignation from the Colorado State Senate. I for one am happy to see him go. Senator Baumgardner did a poor job representing much of State Senate District 8. His district includes counties that represent at least 50% of Colorado ski areas, ski towns, and skier visits. These ski areas include, Winter Park, Steamboat, Breckenridge, Keystone, Copper Mountain and Arapaho Basin. Yet Senator Baumgardner, unlike his Republican predecessors Al and Jean White, never attended Town of Breckenridge Town Council meetings and rarely attended Colorado Association of Ski Towns (CAST) meetings even when they occurred in his Senate District. I hope this record of poor representation for a significant portion of Colorado’s tourist economy is not repeated with the Republican choice to replace Senator Baumgardner.
