NEW ORDER WILL REDUCE NUMBER OF FIRES IN COLORADO AND WYOMING

In Colorado and Wyoming from 1900 to 1915, inclusive railroads were known to have 700 forest fires, or 17.8 percent of forest fires from all known causes, according to Prof. W.J. Merrill of the Colorado Agricultural College.

Prof. Merrill says: “All fires set by locomotives have been due to defective spark arresters and carelessness with the ash pans and hoppers. Federal and state authorities have endeavored many times to have these evils corrected, their efforts have frequently been useless.”
