Vail Valley man wanted on felony warrant asks Facebook for a ride, Sheriff’s Office responds

VAIL — Bryan Sohn’s social media was a little too social on Monday.

Sohn, 28, posted on a local Facebook group’s page that he needed a ride.

His 24-year-old car had broken down on the Summit County side of Vail Pass.

Eagle County Sheriff’s Office staffers spotted Sohn’s post and told everyone following not to bother.

“Do not pick him up,” the Sheriff’s Office posted on that Facebook page, citing he was a nationally wanted fugitive with multiple felony warrants, and also offering him a phone number to call to turn himself in.

Avon police caught up with Sohn on Monday afternoon and booked him into the Eagle County jail.

“Bryan, sit tight. Looks like a ride is on its way,” one commenter wisecracked on Sohn’s Facebook post.

Sohn was booked into the jail at 1:40 p.m. Monday.

So far, he’s booked on possession of a controlled substance, possession of drug paraphernalia, false reporting, using a false identification and a warrant from another agency.

Avon police found him at home, said Avon Police Chief Greg Daly.

The Colorado State Patrol ran Sohn’s license plates when they saw his abandoned car, found out where he lived and alerted Avon police, Daly said. Sohn managed to get a ride to his Avon home and arrange to have his car towed to his home.

An Avon police officer waited patiently for the tow truck carrying the green car to roll past, and followed it to Sohn, Daly said. When the Avon officer approached Sohn, Sohn gave them a fake name, which turned out to be false reporting. A couple Eagle County Sheriff’s deputies showed up and whipped out their portable fingerprint reader. They read Sohn’s fingerprints and confirmed that he was the alleged felon who made the Facebook post.

They searched Sohn and found a small plastic bag that field tested as methamphetamine, Daly said.

That other agency with a warrant would be El Paso County, where law enforcement there would like to discuss Sohn’s 25 counts of ID theft, 24 counts of forgery and two counts of theft with which he’s charged.

According to court records, Sohn pleaded guilty in Eagle County on Sept. 27, 2017, to burglary, forgery and theft charges.

The Eagle County Sheriff’s Office’s felony warrant was for Sohn’s failure to comply with the probationary part of his sentence.

Sohn was kind enough to leave his cell phone number in his Facebook post.

His cell phone voicemail message said: “I’m unavailable or at work.”

Bond has been posted at $18,000.

The Colorado State Patrol has his broken down green 1995 Volkswagen, which was the reason he posted to Facebook originally.
