Ariana Grande continues to dominate streaming: The singer released Thank U, Next on Friday, and she currently has eight of the top 11 songs on Spotify’s global chart, and nine of the top 10 on its U.S. chart on Tuesday.
Her singles lead the way. The top three tracks in both charts are “7 Rings,” which is still riding high in its third week as the most popular song in America, the new release “Break Up With Your Girlfriend, I’m Bored,” which is off to a strong start with close to eight million streams a day, and “Thank U, Next,” which announced Grande’s arrival as a streaming juggernaut last fall.
But listeners aren’t just cherrypicking a few tracks from Thank U, Next — they’re playing the whole thing. “Needy” is at Number Five on Spotify’s global chart, and it’s followed closely by “NASA” (Number 7), “Bloodline” (Number 8), “Bad Idea” (Number 9) and “Fake Smile” (Number 11). All told, those eight songs are being streamed over 40 million times daily on Spotify. In addition, Grande has another pair of tracks inside the Top 15, and the entire album is in the Top 25 globally.
Grande’s only competition at the moment comes from Post Malone, another artist with massive stream counts — he launched nine different tracks from beerbongs & bentleys into the Top 20 on the Hot 100 during debut week — and, more surprisingly, Billie Eilish. Eilish’s “Bury a Friend” is being streamed more than four million a times a day, which is a good sign as she moves towards her debut album. But Grande’s lead over Post and Eilish is remarkable: On Spotify, “7 Rings” is being streamed more than twice as many times a day as either “Wow” or “Bury a Friend.”
Grande’s streaming numbers mean that, barring the death of the sun or a surprise release from Drake, Thank U, Next is almost certain to debut at Number One. Early projections suggest she could sell more than 325,000 album equivalent units. If she reaches that total, Grande will have achieved the biggest first week sales number since Lil Wayne released the long-awaited Tha Carter V last year.
