The song follows ‘Familiar Drugs’, which came out a short while ago, and sounded like this:
We spoke to Dallas Green around the time of that song’s release. Here’s a taste of what he had to say.
WHAT WAS IT THAT MADE THIS FEEL LIKE THE RIGHT TIME AND THE RIGHT SONG?
“With having the song hanging around for a pretty long time and everybody liking the riff, it was just all about building everything else and everybody else’s contributions up around it. It was just a ‘oh ok, this sounds like us’. I feel like it all feels pretty fresh for us too. It doesn’t just sound like an old Alexisonfire song, it sounds more like a new version of us. I feel like that is exciting. We’re older now and we’ve been doing this for a long time. We don’t necessarily want to come back and just do the same thing that we have done before. We wanted to put an exciting twist on it and I think we have done that.”
IT’S ALMOST A CASE OF BEING ABLE TO SHOW ALL THE THINGS YOU HAVE ALL PICKED UP ALONG THE WAY WHILE PLAYING IN OTHER BANDS AND PROJECTS.
“Yeah, very much. I think we have always been an amalgamation of all of the things that we are in to, which is why the music has always sounded like it does. It’s not just the five of us all liking one sort of music and trying to make that sort of music again. It’s always pushing and pulling to get everybody’s influences in there.”
SO WHAT’S THE NEXT STEP FOR THIS? IS THIS A CATALYST TOWARDS AN ALBUM OR IS IT JUST A CASE OF DOING BITS AND PIECES WHEN YOU CAN?
“In having lots of conversations, we always thought about making a whole record but because of everybody’s schedules and other lives it became difficult to find enough time to just be in there and do it. So we kind of just decided that we’re in 2019 and we can kind of do whatever we want. Instead of waiting around to see how long it takes us to make a whole record, let’s just write a song and get it out. We are just going to keep doing that for now. If by the end of the year we end up with a number of songs that could possibly be an album then we will group together and make a nice physical release or something. For me it’s just about keeping this fresh. We love playing the old songs and that’s almost enough, but because we can do whatever we want at this point then that’s exactly what we’re going to do.”
