We all know and love him as the charasmatic frontman of Panic! At The Disco, but Brendon Urie has achieved his first ever hit under his own name.
While he’s no stranger to the Hot 100, up until this week all of his chart placings have been with Panic! At The Disco.
The collaboration with Benny Blanco and Juice WRLD ‘Roses’, released at the end of last year, made its chart debut at number 95 this week.
But this doesn’t mean that this is the start of Brendon releasing music under his own name, and dropping the Panic! monicker. Speaking to Rock Sound last year about taking out the award for Artist Of The Year, Brendon revealed his reasoning behind holding onto the Panic! At The Disco name, sharing “You know, I never really think about changing the name or give too much thought into doing something else. From the first [line-up] split I never wanted to leave the Panic! name but other guys did, and it was all good, but I never really wanted to question it too much. Nowadays I suppose I’m just synonymous with Panic! At The Disco – it’s become a bit of a meme I guess. For me what the Panic! name represents is a sort of no rules, cart blanche mentality, and I’ve never felt the need to be released from that.”
Hard to argue with him on that one. He is Mr. Disco after all.
