He’s right. It is long overdue.
Slipknot frontman Corey Taylor is the most recent person to address the lack of rock and metal artists performing at the Super Bowl in recent history, and has thrown his support behind Disturbed frontman David Draiman who has expressed an interest in performing the national anthem at the 2020 event.
It all started when Disturbed posted on their facebook page for their fans to write in David Draiman on an informal poll for who people want to see singing the national anthem at the 2020 Super Bowl:
And that’s when Corey Taylor got involved, sharing on Twitter “It’s long overdue for rock and metal to be represented at the Super Bowl. Let’s make our voices heard in support of our brother David Draiman of Disturbed and let the NFL know we want him to sing the anthem”.
For context, a rock or metal vocalist has never performed the national anthem at the Super Bowl before, and as far as halftime performers go the closest we’ve got is the Red Hot Chili Peppers in 2014, or The Who in 2010. So Corey’s right – it’s long overdue for rock and metal to be represented.
