2019 is already shaping up to be excellent.
In a reflective blog post, Gerard Way has revealed that there’s more new music in the works- beyond the three brand new songs released at the end of last year.
In his frank and open post, Gerard reflected on 2018 and shed a light on what he’s been working on over the past 12 months.
One of the most exciting details that he revealed is that he’s demo’d a lot of songs, and he has one that he’s particularly excited about, sharing “2018 was a dark year full of black magic in my opinion, so it got me thinking about witches again. I was inspired to buy this mask because I had just written a song called ‘I Am The Hag’, which I haven’t finished yet. It’s kind of heavy. Maybe I’ll release it in 2019. “
The lengthy blog post also covers the rest of his huge 2018, from working on the Netflix adaptation of The Umbrella Academy, giving his time to Make A Wish, his cat Lotion and so much more.
Importantly, he also reflected on his mental health, closing the blog post with a selfie with a new haircut and sharing “And closing out the year, here is a photo I took of myself after I got a haircut. I hadn’t cut my hair in something like 3 years and it was getting extremely long. It felt nice to get it cut, I felt more like myself. I also felt like I was coming out of a fog when I got the haircut, like a veil had been lifted on my brian and started to think about actively participating in the world again. One of the things that helped this was starting to do Transcendental Meditation again, and after about 2 straight months of it I started to feel my brain sparks start to happen again. I also stuck with my treatment and meds, and found a new talk therapist, which has been amazing. I made a lot of progress this year.”
