Gerard Way On The Possibility Of A My Chemical Romance Reunion Happening: “I Don’t Think So”

“It wasn’t fun anymore” – My Chemical Romance frontman Gerard Way.

In a brand new interview with The Guardian, former My Chemical Romance frontman Gerard Way has opened up about the end of the band, almost six years after their breakup.

Speaking of their 2010 album ‘Danger Days: The True Lives Of The Fabulous Killjoys’, Gerard shared that the band had reached a peak, and amidst fears that whatever came next wouldn’t be good enough to meet expectations they called it a day.

“When things start to succeed and go really well, that’s when a lot of people start to have an opinion and that’s when you run into struggle,” he shared. “Everybody had a fucking opinion about what MCR should be. So it made it difficult to figure out what direction to take next. You get caught up in this trap of ‘Is it ever gonna be good enough?’”

He continued, sharing “It wasn’t fun to make stuff any more. I think breaking up the band broke us out of that machine.”

Gerard had previously shared that My Chemical Romance wasn’t needed anymore when Barrack Obama was President, as the world had hope. Speaking on whether the change in leadership had sparked any interest in reforming the band, he shared “That’s stuff I thought about when the world started to get super fucked-up again. It definitely came into my head, but I’d changed so much as a person. I didn’t know how I’d fit into it any more, I didn’t know how the band would fit into it any more. But you’re right, the world is definitely in need of something positive.”

He’s not wrong.

But does that mean that a reunion is on the horizon for My Chemical Romance? Sadly no, according to Gerard – but there have definitely been offers “We definitely get offers regularly to reunite – it’s a constant thing. It’s flattering, it’s really nice of people … I miss playing with the guys, but I don’t think so …”

Gerard released a brand new cover of ‘Happy Together’ yesterday with former My Chemical Romance bandmate Ray Toro. Check it out below:
