Gerard Way has debuted another new single: a cover of the Turtles’ “Happy Together.” The song will be featured in the Netflix adaptation of his comic series The Umbrella Academy.
With assistance from former My Chemical Romance bandmate Ray Toro, Way remains faithful to the classic 1967 song. There’s a touch more fuzz in the sound and a bit of camp in Way’s voice as he delivers the track, which was also recently covered by Weezer for their Teal Album. The song will be featured in the show’s fifth episode.
The Umbrella Academy will debut on Netflix on February 15th and stars Ellen Page, Mary J. Blige. Way’s cover of the Simon & Garfunkel song “A Hazy Shade of Winter” was featured in a recent trailer for the show. Prior to the new music for his show, Way has been releasing a steady string of solo singles since Halloween. He has yet to reveal plans for a new solo album or even the soundtrack plans for the show.
