Sam Smith teams with Fifth Harmony’s Normani for the sultry new single “Dancing With a Stranger,” which the duo released digitally Friday.
“Dancing With a Stranger” is the result of a chance meeting between Smith and Normani: Smith was writing new music at a Los Angeles studio while Normani recorded in the studio next door. The two singers professed to be fans of each other’s work before Smith recruited Normani for the single.
“I don’t want to be alone tonight/It’s pretty clear that I’m not over you/I’m still thinking ‘bout the things you do/So I don’t want to be alone tonight,” Smith sings on the track. “Can you light the fire/I need somebody who can take control/I know exactly what I need to do/Cos I don’t want to be alone tonight.”
Normani appears midway through the pop song to give Smith a dance and duet partner. According to the duo, a music video for the track is forthcoming.
“Dancing With a Stranger” marks Smith’s second song in a month following the release of his Watership Down theme “Fire on Fire.” Following the release of The Thrill of It All in late 2017, Smith appeared on a pair of 2018 singles, Calvin Harris’ “Promises” and Brandi Carlile’s “Party of One.”
