King Krule issued a trippy stop-motion animation video for “Logos,” a track from his acclaimed second LP, 2017’s The Ooz. The musician’s brother, visual artist Jack Marshall, created the hazy clip, which follows a one-eyed extraterrestrial through a shifting desert landscape filled with crocodiles, randomly sprouting trees, smoking crescent moons and a dog playing a warped saxophone.
The project marks the final installment of a three-part collaboration with WeTransfer. As part of the series, King Krule (Archy Marshall) and Jack Marshall joined for a conversation about their respective styles and the intersection of music and visual art.
“When I first saw snippets of the [‘Logos’] video, it was striking in the way it was made,” Archy said. “The texture of the paper and the way the characters were moving was exciting. I hadn’t seen anything like that.”
He also noted that “Logos” was influenced by British two-tone band the Specials. “‘Logos’ comes from 2016,” he said. “I think it was the first song on The Ooz where I knew what the record was going to be like. I was in a weird place after A New Place 2 Drown, and after 6 Feet where I’d written all these songs but didn’t know what to do with them. Everything had got on top of me. Logos was me trying to be like Terry Hall in ‘Friday Night, Saturday Morning.’”
King Krule has yet to announce a follow-up for The Ooz, which earned a Mercury Prize nomination in 2018.
