Remembering The Time That Gerard Way Filled In For Tom DeLonge During A Blink-182 Show

It was an ambitious cross-over event before ambitious cross-over events even existed.

Because sometimes we just need to look back and honour cool moments in music history, right?

Let’s set the scene – it’s 2011, and My Chemical Romance are out on a co-headline tour with blink-182 around North America. The tour was a long one, and saw them performing 40 shows over almost two months – so it stands to reason that the vocalists might have had a couple of nights where they were feeling a bit poorly.

Which is exactly what happened in Detroit, at the show on September 11, 2011. Blink-182’s Tom DeLonge was reportedly feeling poorly, and My Chemical Romance frontman Gerard Way stepped in to sing his part on the blink classic ‘First Date’.

And to be honest, he absolutely smashes it. These videos are an absolute gem.

What a time! Viva la Honda Civic Tour!
