Sharon Van Etten performed her impassioned new song “Seventeen” on Wednesday’s Jimmy Kimmel Live.
The singer-songwriter, decked out in a sharp red suit, stood stationary on the stage – one hand clutching the microphone, the other holding a pair of maracas that she shook on the song’s chorus. Over piano washes, whirring synthesizer and a muted tom-tom groove, she built a dynamic vocal – from soft early lines to a frantic scream in the final verse.
Van Etten also performed “You Shadow,” adopting more of a twangy tone over a loping groove laced with fuzz guitar and bright organ chords. Both tracks, along with the recently issued “Jupiter 4” and “Comeback Kid,” appear on her upcoming LP, Remind Me Tomorrow, out January 18th.
The singer will promote Remind Me Tomorrow on a 33-date world tour; a North American leg launches February 6th in Washington, D.C. and concludes March 1st in Los Angeles, California, followed by a run of European dates throughout March and early April.
