Cassettes really aren’t a dead format after all.
Last year was a massive year for Twenty One Pilots. What with their massive return, the release of ‘Trench’, and not to mention taking out Album Of The Year at the Rock Sound Awards.
Nielsen Music released their 2018 data overnight, and Twenty One Pilots made quite the impression in the overall cassette charts.
‘Trench’ claimed the overall third spot, having shifted over 7000 units in North America of the custom yellow cassette tape.
Twenty One Pilots’ ‘Trench’ is the highest-charting cassette tape in 2018 by a single artist, only being beaten in the year end chart by both volumes one and two of the Guardians Of The Galaxy soundtrack compilations.
Overall in 2018 the sales of cassette tapes in North America rose 23% year on year, with over 219,000 cassettes being sold in the US last year. Obviously, helped in part by Twenty One Pilots.
