Last weekend’s snow storm didn’t damper the festivities at the 71st annual Running of Leadville Ski Joring event.
The annual event is one of the highlights each winter here in the High Country, as skiers and horsemen are paired up, both in a match and draw-style, to traverse a race course complete with jumps and rings down Leadville’s historic Harrison Avenue.
This year’s overall champions consisted of skier Jerry Kissell with rider Dana Stiles and horse Newt in the Legends Division.
In the Sport Division, skier Tug Birk won along with rider Corie Downey and horse Whiskey.
And, in the Open Division, skiers Greg Dahl and Jason Dahl won with rider Savannah McCarthy and horse Tank.
All winners went home with the coveted Leadville Ski Joring jacket and belt buckle.
